Certified vs Cheap Inks — What's on Your Skin?

OEKO-TEX® Certified

  • Formulated to meet strict limits for harmful substances (aromatic amines from azo colorants, heavy metals, formaldehyde, etc.)
  • ECO PASSPORT validation available for input chemicals; aligned to global regulations (REACH Annex XVII, CPSIA) and ZDHC levels
  • Lower VOCs and better worker/consumer safety standards
  • Consistent color & wash-durability when used with approved workflows

Cheap / Non-Certified

  • Dermal & allergy risks: cheap colorants can trigger contact dermatitis and allergic reactions
  • Azo dye breakdown: some dyes can release carcinogenic aromatic amines (restricted in EU under REACH Annex XVII)
  • Plasticizer concerns: may contain phthalates and PVC-related issues
  • Inconsistent curing & colorfastness: higher chance of cracking, fading and odor
